The Mother
Mo Ngae Po
Mo Ngae Po belongs to Mrs. Mue Kae Pho, who received her from her husband, Mr. Mae Che. The family lives in Ban Nam Hom, Mae Tuen Subdistrict, Mae Ramat District, Tak Province, close to forest areas where wild elephants are known to live.
According to the family's account, Mo Ngae Po once entered the forest while foraging and mated with a wild bull elephant. She later became pregnant and gave birth to a female calf — that calf was Mali. Today, Mo Ngae Po continues to live alongside her daughter.
Mo Ngae Po is generally healthy, lively, and gentle. She enjoys eating, playing in the mud, dust bathing, and spending time with both Mali and Chicha.
At Trunk Heaven, we do not expect Mo Ngae Po to do anything for the entertainment of visitors. We want her to choose — where she wants to walk, when she wants to forage, whether she wants to play in the mud or dust, whether she wants to stay with the other elephants, whether she wants to rest, or whether she simply wants to walk away from us. Because at Trunk Heaven, the freedom to make choices is part of elephant welfare.
When you meet Mo Ngae Po, instead of asking "what will she do for us today?" — we invite you to observe: "when she is given a choice, what does she choose to do for herself?"
